Apple is now bigger than Microsoft

Apple surpasses Microsoft to grab the title as most valuable technology company, at least in terms of market capitalization.

Apple's market capital passed Microsoft's, puts Apple's market capital at $225.98 billion to Microsoft's $225.32 billion.

Shares of Apple are worth more than ten times their value ten years ago. Apple last had a higher market value than Microsoft in December 1989 but almost went out of business in the 1990s.

Microsoft, under arrogant Steve Ballmer's hands, said that they still make more profit than anybody else and that no other technology companies, including Apple, have managed to match them until now with 94 percent of computers being sold with a Windows OS.

That might change if the likes of Google, Apple and IBM manage to bring down Microsoft's twin cash cows, Windows and Office by convincing people to switch to cheaper web-based alternatives or using other operating systems.

Microsoft has been under pressure all month, as concerns have mounted about the health of the global economy, particularly in the Europe markets, which have taken a beating from an economic crisis in Greece and worries about stability in other countries, such as Italy and Spain.

Those worries, as well as concerns about the companies' prospects in the mobile device market in the U.S., have contributed to a sharp selloff that has pushed the shares down by more than 20% since Microsoft reported results for its third fiscal quarter on April 23.

The biggest corporation of all, however, remains oil giant Exxon Mobil at $278.64 billion. Considering that Apple was $50 billion behind Microsoft a mere two months ago, and the fourth generation iPhone is expected to release in June, and new iPods usually release in September, so the idea of Apple surpassing ExxonMobil this year is not totally out of the realm of possibilities.

1Malaysia. Money First. Bribe Now.

Najib promises to sign a cheque of RM5 million to resolve flood woes in Rejang Park if BN candidate Robert Lau wins.

"Let's make a deal. If you deliver me Robert Lau Jr on Sunday, I will sign the cheque on Monday."

He said he is the PM for all Malaysians. He should develop Rejang Park no matter what with no strings attached, unconditionally. This is obviously violated the election law.

"You help me, I help you."

Just because of the Election Commission has no balls to against the bloody Najib, he is now act everything above the laws.

...and what's more? Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Attorney-General just keep quiet on this matter. Bloody idiots all around the government!!!

Zaid Ibrahim is the PKR candidate for Hulu Selangor

Former minister in the PM's Department Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim is PKR's candidate for the Hulu Selangor by-election.

He is known for his criticism of the government's handling of legal issues such as the judiciary, human rights and Islamic law. He supported the establishment of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam Video Clip, criticizing the government's initial response to the clip, which allegedly revealed fixing of judicial decisions and graft in the judiciary.

Soon after his appointment to the Cabinet, he said the government had to openly apologize for its handling of the 1988 Judicial Crisis, which culminated in the unceremonious dismissal of the then Lord President of the Supreme Court, Tun Salleh Abas.

He has earned another great nick as "The Man of Principle", right after his resignation as minister. He stood for his principle and not worried of his ministerial post. He quit his miniterial post on September 15, 2008, after strongly protesting the detention of a journalist, DAP's MP Teresa Kok and Raja Petra, under Internal Security Act (ISA).

In June 2009, Zaid joined the opposition party - PKR.

While all those political frogs willing to betray their voters for benefits and money, Zaid willing to throw away the minister post for defending his principle.

Good Luck! Zaid!

Chilean Quake May Have Shortened Earth Days

Source: http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/earth-20100301.html

The Feb. 27 magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile may have shortened the length of each Earth day.

JPL research scientist Richard Gross computed how Earth's rotation should have changed as a result of the Feb. 27 quake. Using a complex model, he and fellow scientists came up with a preliminary calculation that the quake should have shortened the length of an Earth day by about 1.26 microseconds (a microsecond is one millionth of a second).

Perhaps more impressive is how much the quake shifted Earth's axis. Gross calculates the quake should have moved Earth's figure axis (the axis about which Earth's mass is balanced) by 2.7 milliarcseconds (about 8 centimeters, or 3 inches). Earth’s figure axis is not the same as its north-south axis; they are offset by about 10 meters (about 33 feet).

By comparison, Gross said the same model estimated the 2004 magnitude 9.1 Sumatran earthquake should have shortened the length of day by 6.8 microseconds and shifted Earth's axis by 2.32 milliarcseconds (about 7 centimeters, or 2.76 inches).

Gross said that even though the Chilean earthquake is much smaller than the Sumatran quake, it is predicted to have changed the position of the figure axis by a bit more for two reasons. First, unlike the 2004 Sumatran earthquake, which was located near the equator, the 2010 Chilean earthquake was located in Earth's mid-latitudes, which makes it more effective in shifting Earth's figure axis. Second, the fault responsible for the 2010 Chiliean earthquake dips into Earth at a slightly steeper angle than does the fault responsible for the 2004 Sumatran earthquake. This makes the Chile fault more effective in moving Earth's mass vertically and hence more effective in shifting Earth's figure axis.

Gross said the Chile predictions will likely change as data on the quake are further refined.

Dirty BN Strike Again

BN is the best player in the world for flashing the racial card. With all the political motives, they accused PR for marginalizing the Malays, but there is no basis to such accusations.

When Zahrain and Tan Tee Beng left PKR and became independents, do you really think they were disillusioned with the party leadership? I can clearly tell you, they quit because they can't get the "benefits" and definitely can't survive under the ruling of CAT (Competency, Accountability, Transparency) as what the PR adopted as their guiding principle in the administration.

PKR is totally different than DAP and PAS where half of their members are ex-UMNO. Some of these ex-UMNO are still having the same mindset that "political benefits" will just coming their way once they are in power. When things turned opposite direction, they will quit with some stupid excuses. I think this is good. At least PKR can clear the bad blood and tumour around the party.

BN is playing dirty now trying to regain its two-third majority in parliament, as that would give BN the power to re-delineate constituencies before the next general election and also to amend the constitution. All these acts will put BN to a stronger position that no one can shake its position as federal government.

Put aside the political chaos, close your eyes and try to immune yourself. We must unite to deny BN-rule government for next general election. It's simple as that!

It's Anwar Enterprise, not a Najib & Co. (of course)

Rais commented Anwar’s family monopolized PKR.

“PKR is seen as being monopolized by one family, that of Permatang Pauh MP (Anwar, the adviser), his wife (Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) as the president and their daughter (Lembah Pantai MP, Nurul Izzah) who also plays an important role.”

“It (the party) is seen as a family enterprise.”

I think yes! Anwar’s family monopolized the whole PKR, but definitely not UMNO. In UMNO, 1+1=3, and it is right. This is Malaysia.

So out of six Prime Ministers, why three of them are from the Najib & Co.?
Why Abdul Razak and Najib, but not others?
Abdul Razak was the brother in law of Hussein Onn, another Prime Minister.
Why Hishammuddin became Home Minister?

Why Mahathir and Mukhriz? And yet, Mukhriz is currently the Malaysian Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry.

Why Abdullah and Khairy Jamaluddin? KJ is the head of the youth for both BN and UMNO.

I’m not sure who actually in family business, maybe Anwar is!!!

Syabas to Malaysia (Najib) Sdn Bhd!

(Maybe it works better than Singapore (Lee Kuan Yew) Pte Ltd.)

Most Respected PAS Leader

The Federal Court yesterday decided that BN's Zambry is the legal MB of Perak. We are not surprised by the decision. It's an expected call anyway.

...but thanks to BN for this constitutional crisis, we have the most respected PAS leader - Datuk Seri Mohd Nizar Jamalluddin. We will be surprised that how many non-Malay stand behind this PAS leader!

Whilst we respect the court's decision that Zamry is the legal MB, Datuk Seri Mohd Nizar Jamalluddin will still be the people's MB.

Syabas, Nizar!!!

Google Chrome OS Tablet

Google has shown off a concept tablet running their Chrome OS. The concept was designed by Google Chrome’s UI lead designer Glen Murphy, and gives us a glimpse at possible future Google Tablet’s.

As you can see in the video below, one thing that stands out is the ability to multi-task on the Google Tablet, something which the Apple iPad is lacking.

If Google do produce a Chrome OS based tablet, and it does come with multi-tasking then it may just be the tablet that will give the Apple iPad some competition.

Apple iPad

  • It offers a maximum of 64GB of storage, a 9.7-inch screen and isn't able to run multiple apps simultaneously, so it's not going to replace many desktop computers.

  • It doesn't have a cell phone, so it's not going to replace many iPhones.

  • With prices starting at just $499, lots of people will want them anyway.

  • With iWork, Mail, Safari, and 100,000-plus iPhone apps available, many users could use iPads instead of laptop computers.
So who is going to buy all these iPads? First and foremost, I expect lots of notebook computer users to abandon their Mac and Windows laptops completely and replace them with iPads. And I expect a substantial number of iPhone and desktop computer users to buy an iPad to use in addition to their desktop computer and/or iPhone. Ergo, I predict the iPad will become an instant best-seller.

So, if the iPad does become a smash hit, how will it affect Apple?

The biggest concern, I think, is that the iPad is going to cannibalize some MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro sales, perhaps a lot of them.

That sounds bad for Apple but it's really not, as I'll explain in a moment. I also believe the iPad is going to convert a good number of Windows laptop users, which you have to agree, sounds pretty good for Apple.

Finally, the iPad will appeal to many users who will buy it in addition to all of their other devices, which would also be quite good for Apple.

The question is how badly will those lost MacBook sales hurt Apple. I believe the answer is not much. Sure, in the short term it will mean that some Apple notebook profits are lost to the less expensive (and thus less profitable) iPad sales. But in the long run Apple will more than make up those profits selling music, video and applications to iPad.

In other words, though Apple makes a tidy profit when you buy a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, the iPad will become a gold mine that delivers profits month in and month out, year after year, and will be one of Apple's greatest success stories.

Specs

The iPad is a beast of a machine, so here's a rundown of what makes up Apple's latest and greatest.

  • CPU: Apple's custom 1GHz A4 SOC, manufactured by Samsung. And I can tell you, it's blazingly fast.

  • Display: 9.7-inch, 1024 x 786 (132 PPI), LED backlit IPS with capacitive touch and oleophobic coating.

  • Storage: The iPad will come in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variations.

  • RAM: No word on this from Apple (just like with the iPhone and iPod touch). We assume it's more than the iPhone 3GS's 256MB, but we won't know for sure till we see a full breakdown.

  • Wireless: The devices comes standard with 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1. You can also purchase a version which has 3G connectivity (UMTS / HSDPA 850, 1900, 2100MHz and GSM / EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz). Sorry everyone, the iPad uses new micro SIMs.

  • Other sensors: The iPad has a digital compass, there's AGPS on-board in the 3G version, and both versions have an accelerometer and ambient light sensor.

  • Ports / input / output: Headphone jack, 30-pin dock connector, built-in microphone, built-in speaker.

  • Battery life: Apple claims "up to" 10 hours web surfing on WiFi, listening to music, or watching video, and over a month on standby.

  • Dimensions: height: 9.56-inches, width: 7.47-inches, depth: 0.5-inches, weight: 1.5 pounds (1.6 for the 3G model).

9/11 vs. Anwar

Dr M persists with 9/11 conspiracy theories

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad continued today with his claims that the 9/11 attacks in the United States were staged. He now suggests that the collapse of the World Trade Center and surrounding buildings in New York nine years ago was the result of controlled demolition.

His remarks, published in his blog today, backs conspiracy theories put forward by fringe groups, and comes just days after he had also said that the Holocaust had failed as a final solution against the Jews.

“It is of course a fact that the two towers were destroyed after two aircraft crashed into them,” he said in reference to a speech he made on Wednesday when he said that “if they can make Avatar they can make anything.”

“A lot of people in America (the apologists will dismiss them as conspiracy theorists) questioned whether the towers collapsed because the planes crashed into them or that something else caused them to come down. These people have reproduced videos taken by media people showing the attack and the collapse of the towers, pointing out certain peculiar features. I have seen the three-hour long video which is widely distributed.”

He argued that the collapse of the twin towers was typical of controlled demolitions which are common in the United States.

In his posting, he also provides a link to a video on the Internet which is based on a book written by a conspiracy theorist who claims that elements in the US government had staged the attacks.

The former prime minister’s decision to lend his weight to such theories appears to be part of his campaign to highlight the plight of Palestinians, a cause which he has championed since he was still in government.

But by targetting the United States, in suggesting this week that the 9/11 attacks were staged as an excuse to mount attacks on the Muslim world, he could pose some problems for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the latter’s efforts to develop better ties with Washington.

In his posting, Dr Mahathir reproduces a number of claims and allegations which have been rejected by engineers and other investigators, including how the aircraft that crashed into the Pentagon was never found.

The former PM, who still retains significant influence among conservative Malay-Muslims and Umno members, also claimed that he met a janitor who worked in the twin towers and who had told him of explosions unrelated to the plane crash.

“As I said in my speech I am not so certain now that the Arab ‘terrorists’ hijacked four commercial aircrafts simultaneously and flew them into the twin towers, the Pentagon and somewhere unknown .

“Some people have condemned me for doubting that the attack was mounted by Arab Muslim terrorists. Perhaps one of the television stations would care to air the videos mentioned without censorship.”

At a separate press conference today at the Islamic Arts Museum, Dr Mahathir scoffed at suggestions that Malaysia’s attempts to attract foreign investments would be dampened as a result of his controversial comments about Jews.

“During my time (as Prime Minister) I was nasty about the Americans. And I was branded anti-Semitic too. But even then we still obtained FDIs,” said Dr. Mahathir.

The former PM also asserted the fact that Malaysia cannot depend solely on FDIs and should, instead, build up its own economy.

“There is a fear among people to say anything political of this issue... especially when we are accusing a government of a very powerful country of doing something wrong.

“Don’t forget they (even) told lies to go to war,” said Dr. Mahathir.

He also rebuked a reporter for suggesting that his comments could be viewed as insensitive given the current racial tension within Malaysia itself.

“Why is it the worst time to talk about this? Why should you call it racist? Does Malaysia’s race problems have something to do with the Jews?”

He laughed at suggestions that this was a cheap publicity stunt on his part.

“What do I gain from a publicity stunt? I’m not going to run for Prime Minister again...well, that is, unless you want me to,” said the former prime minister in jest.

Conspiracy??? I would rather believe "someone" directed the show against Anwar!!! That conspiracy theories will probably make more sense!!!

If "someone" can think of it, probably he had done it before!

Barbecuing the Church - No ISA

With the arrest of eight people, Malaysian police believe that they have all the suspects behind the fire at the Metro Tabernacle Church. The police planned to investigate them for mischief by fire under Section 436 of the Penal Code and the suspects will face up to 20 years jail if found guilty.

One interesting thing here, they will be charged under "mischief by fire".

Huh? Another double standards?
Don't you think they should be charged under ISA too??
It will not going to affect national security?? Huh, Mr. Nazri?!

One simple answer - because they were not from the "Opposition" and not the mosque got attacked. If they are... you don't have to use your brain to think but they will certainly been long thrown to the jail without trial.

This is Malaysia! Welcome to the World of Reality!

Between Right and Wrong

Nazri said he believed the decision by High Court judge Datuk Lau Bee Lan was wrong "because she should not be deciding on whether the word can be used or not because the home minister has the power under the Act to order the ban in Herald".

"She said the minister did not produce enough evidence... how could you produce enough evidence when the order is preventive in nature? You cannot wait until churches are burnt and lives are lost then only you want to make an order.

"I personally say that the judge was wrong. For example, the stepping on the cow head incident... I have not done anything wrong under the law for stepping on a cow's head but because 7% of the population are Hindus, we must respect their sensitivity, that was why the (people allegedly involved) were charged under the Sediction Act even though it is not wrong to step on a cow's head.

"So don't tell me that you cannot consider the sensitivity of the Muslims?"

OK, you are right, but just half right.

Nothing wrong stepping on a cow's head if it is not Hindu-related. Ask yourself, Mr. Nazri, what's triggered the demonstration? Let me tell you, it was the relocation of a Hindu temple.

Today, if a cattleman let his cows scattered around and shit everywhere in a village; the villagers step on a cow’s head to spread their anger, then the Hindus will not feel offensive because it will not be a religious matter.

If you talk about sensitivity, how about slaughtering a cow by the road side during Hari Raya Haji? Don't tell me that you cannot consider the sensitivity of the Hindus?!

So, shut up and think before you speak!!!

Tiananmen 'Tank Man' photo available on Google China

The iconic "Tank Man" photo taken during the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown and banned in China was available on Google.cn Wednesday, hours after the online giant vowed to defy Chinese Internet censors.

Photo shows a protester holding a poster of the "Tank Man" democracy activist stopping tanks in Beijing during the 1989 pro-democracy movement. The photo, banned in China, was available on Google.cn Wednesday, hours after the online giant vowed to defy Chinese Internet censors.

Google announced Tuesday it would no longer censor search engine results in China and possibly pull out of the world's largest online market, citing cyber spy attacks and Chinese Web censorship.

The picture of a Chinese man who boldly stood in front of a line of tanks during the 1989 crack down on pro-democracy protests made headlines around the world. It is banned in China where the event is still hugely sensitive.

A search for the image on Google.cn displayed the photo immediately, while the image did not come up on Baidu.com, another popular Chinese search engine.

Searches for other sensitive topics such as the Dalai Lama and the banned Falungong spiritual group were also returned on Google, but were also available on some Chinese portals.

China blocks Web content it deems politically objectionable in a vast censorship system dubbed the "Great Firewall of China."

Google said it was targeted by China-based cyber spies along with at least 20 other unidentified firms in an apparent bid to hack into the email accounts of rights activists around the world.

Several people, some bearing flowers, turned up Wednesday at Google's China headquarters in Beijing to show their support for the Internet giant.

"We are ordinary Google users who have come here to say thank you. We want to show our support to Google," said one woman, who would not give her name.

Some Internet users expressed dismay at Google's possible pull-out.

In an online survey of over 14,000 people on 163.com, a popular portal, nearly 78 percent said they did not want to see Google leave the Chinese market.

"If Google leaves, then I will not go online," one person said on 163.com.

"Google, by defending its commercial morals, will only receive more of netizens' understanding and support," said an online user on sina.com, another Chinese portal.

Reaction in China's state-controlled media was muted.

China Central Television, the government's main television propaganda arm, made no mention of the story in its midday news broadcast.

Other major state-run outlets ran only brief reports that failed to mention the allegations of government Internet censorship or hacking directed at rights activists.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on Beijing Tuesday to explain cyber attacks originating from China against Google and at least 20 other firms.

"We look to the Chinese government for an explanation," Clinton said in a statement after Google vowed to defy Chinese Internet censors in outrage at "highly sophisticated" cyber attacks aimed at Chinese human rights activists.

Google May Leave China... Completely!!!

Official Google Blog: A new approach to China

Google made a threat to China which does not have a precedent in the actions of any other US company. It threatened to pull its business from China due to potential cyber attacks on its online operations.

The company said, “Like many other well-known organizations, we face cyber attacks of varying degrees on a regular basis. In mid-December, we detected a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property from Google. However, it soon became clear that what at first appeared to be solely a security incident–albeit a significant one–was something quite different.”

Google added “we have evidence to suggest that a primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. Based on our investigation to date we believe their attack did not achieve that objective. Only two Gmail accounts appear to have been accessed, and that activity was limited to account information (such as the date the account was created) and subject line, rather than the content of emails themselves.”

“These attacks and the surveillance they have uncovered–combined with the attempts over the past year to further limit free speech on the web–have led us to conclude that we should review the feasibility of our business operations in China. We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine within the law, if at all. We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.”

Wal-Mart is next.

No Action on Protesters?

No action will be taken against those planning demonstrations over a High Court ruling allowing the use of the word "allah" by the Catholic weekly Herald, Najib said.

This is a great chance to see how our police practice double standards if really no action taken against those protesters.

I’m not here to discuss whether the word “allah” can or can’t be used by non-Muslims but rather to see how our police handle this.

Any demonstrations held by PR will always end with the police interruption as they categorize it as illegal assembly. When MCA members gather outside Wisma MCA where a candlelight vigil was taking place earlier to save their party leaders, then it was ok.

Some groups were planning to protest against the court’s decision tomorrow and the world can once again see how our Malaysian police handle this.

There are two important points here:

First of all, the police should not allow the demonstration to happen as it is illegal. Those protesters should be charged for illegal assembly and for not respecting the court’s decision. It’s against law!

Secondly, if the police issued permits to allow the demonstration, then the police should be charged for not respecting the court’s decision. Those protesters can still be charged for the same thing. Again, it’s against law!

Home Minister Hishammuddin said action will be taken only it affects security. He said, ‘if you don’t allow, it will affect people’s emotions’. If this is the case, you should allow demonstration against Perak’s BN-Govt because “it will affect people’s emotions”!

Again, I’m not here to discuss the court’s decision but would rather to watch such a great show on how our police could possibly practice double standards again.

Nexus One

The Nexus One is a smartphone from Google, Inc. that runs the Android open source mobile operating system. The device is manufactured by HTC Corporation and became available on January 5, 2010.

Features of the phone include the ability to transcribe voice to text, a native Gmail application, and voice directions while driving.

The Nexus One features a 3.7" AMOLED display, with a resolution 800x480. The phone features a 1GHz Qualcomm 8250 processor, 512MB of RAM and 512MB of internal Flash storage, a 5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash and digital zoom, GPS receiver, light and proximity sensors, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and 802.11b/g/n Wifi capabilities.

The Nexus One runs the Google Android 2.1 operating system, codenamed 'Eclair'.

The 2.1 firmware version of the Android operating system adds a few aesthetic changes such as "Live Wallpapers" which are animated in the background and react to different user inputs. It also replaces the "Application Drawer" with a simple button which can be pressed to access the list of applications installed on the phone. This thumbnail list can be scrolled up and down and as it's scrolled, the applications roll up into a 3D cube instead of disappearing from the screen. Once the bottom of the application thumbnail list is hit, the screen bounces off similar to the iPhone functionality.

Pinch-zooming is still not available on the 2.1 firmware of Android. However, double-tapping will zoom in. Additionally, the "Gallery" application allows the use of finger swiping to switch pictures rather than before where you had to press a "Right" or "Left" arrow key.

A web store has been setup to sell the Nexus One without operator service. Unfortunately (as usual), the Nexus One phone is not available in Malaysia (at the moment).

Wanna buy a Dell? Think twice!!!

If you think you want to buy a Dell now, read this first.

I went to PC Fair (III) 2009 at KL Convention Centre on Dec 4 to look for new PC. As usual, all the sales persons will distribute brochures or promotional leaflets everywhere you go.

My original intention was to buy an HP computer but one brochure caught my eyes, and that was Dell. Without really much consideration, I’ve made up my mind – Dell Inspiron 545 selling at RM1899.

I went to the first Dell booth and tried to get a sales agent to assist me. The sales agent told me they didn’t carry desktop but laptop only and asked me to check out other Dell booths.

I went to the second Dell booth, again, the sales agent told me the same story that they didn’t carry desktop. This sales agent advised me to order that particular model online instead via dell.com.my/pikom as printed in the brochure. I was a bit frustrated; if you don’t carry it, why print it in the brochure?

Back home, I logged on to the website provided in the brochure. Without many clicking, I’ve landed on a page with three models displayed – Inspiron 545 Desktop (RM1199), Inspiron 545 Desktop (RM1899) and Inspiron 545s Desktop (RM2xxx).

I made a quick order of two units of Inspiron 545, one priced at RM1899 and another one at RM1199 by clicking on ‘Add to Cart’ button, and proceed to ‘Checkout’. It was a fast order and the sales transaction completed at 4:23pm.

On Dec 12, I received an SMS informing me that my order will be delivered on Dec 14 between 9am-2pm. On Dec 14, I’ve waited the whole morning till 1:30pm, but there was no sign of someone going to deliver my PC.

I called up the logistics, 03-55485255 ext 107 Ms. Thila. No one was answering and forwarded my call to voice mail with a message of ‘voice mail is not recording’. Can you imagine that?

I called a few times, still the same. Finally, I called the main line and spoke to the operator. She said they can only deliver by 3pm. I told her, this was not what has been agreed and I have an appointment. She said she will try to arrange it before 2pm and will call me back to confirm.

I waited till 2:15pm, and I rushed out. By 2:30pm, a goddamned logistics guy called me for delivery and I have to rush back just to receive the order. Without checking, I signed the paper and left home immediately as I have an appointment.

At night, when I checked the items, I found no monitors delivered.

I called up Dell at 1-800-88-0553 the next day. They put me on hold for 30 minutes and the line just cutout. I called again, waited for 15 minutes, and finally someone attended and a case# 7372360 opened. The so-called “customer care consultant” asked me to scan the brochure and send to APCustServ@dell.com. I scanned the brochure, attached it to the email and sent at 10:07am as well as provided information like Internet Reference Number: MY0000-4163-07574 for their investigation.

On Dec 17, I received an email from Dell Customer Service <sa_cc_cust_serv@dell.com>, and it said:

As per the attached, it is not written a free monitor will be included with the purchase.
Furthermore, when the order was placed, the order confirmation states you have chose "no monitor" as part of the purchase.
Please attach any confirmation that states we have missed the monitor while you have chose it as part of the purchase.

Dear readers, do you think this is a stupid reply?

I replied to them, and I said there was no “optional” or “excluded” word on it. I requested someone to call me but no one called.

I called again, Melissa attended to me. She repeated the same story and requested to resend the brochure. I sent it to them again with attention to her name at 10:47am and I received an email stated the case closed.

Order number: 3003852983 Case number: 7372360

We trust the recent case that you logged with Dell Customer Care under the above case number has been attended to / resolved to your satisfaction. Should you have any further enquiries, kindly email us at SA_CC_Cust_Serv@dell.com

This really got me mad. The case can just close without resolving. What kind of customer service is this???

I emailed them again and I told them to stop cheating! Whatever printed on the brochure will not be honored at all, it seems! I think this is a new way of cheating!

At 4:51pm, they email again.

With reference to the order that you have placed online, you would have to select the monitor in order to receive it. The option is provided with every desktop. If you do not select the option, it would not be included.

If you refer to the leaflet that you have highlighted below, it lists the recommended specs for this system. It does not state that the monitor is included as a free item. If it was included as a free item, it would be stated clearly in the brochure.

I’m sorry. We will not be able to comply with your request of sending a monitor. You would have to order the monitor separately.

What?! Recommended specs? It does not state that the monitor is included as a free item?

This sounds stupid!!!

I replied them with a challenge that if according to what they said, what about Windows, 4GB DDR2 SDRAM, 500GB SATA Hard Drive, etc? They were not stated as FREE items!

I managed to find a past Hari Raya brochure and want them to explain.

They replied me on Jan 4:

Again, those are just recommended specs.

If you would like a certain item included, you would have to select it. If there is a free item included in the brochure, it will state the item with the words FREE.

Dear readers, if you stand in my shoes, will you get heart attack with the stupid and irresponsible reply?

I asked them to stop their stupid reply and call me, and this is what I got:

In order to answer your concerns as comprehensively as possible, please contact us on [(MY) - 1800-88-0301] and our Care specialists will be glad to clarify to you.

I called the number and Nurin attended to me (of course after a long wait). I told her, I have fed up to repeat the story and get me the manager; an asshole manager – Kumar attended to me.

You know what?! This stupid manager can’t even have access to the email I sent and blindly answered from their recorded logs. Where are my emails gone?

If you can’t see the brochure, you will not be able to feel how frustrated I am. If this is the customer service provided by Dell, do you want to get into this type of hassle?

He told me whatever printed in the brochure was probably the tactics that the retailers use to up sell the products. Dell will not take responsibility for it. I told him the brochure was printed with Dell name, not the retailer name and don’t push me away!

The brochure distributed everywhere at the hall and no specific retailer name printed in the brochure. If one of the retailers trying to get more business from others by giving a free monitor, do you think they will achieve their goal by distributing brochure without their name? C'mon, use your brain!

Again, the stupid and irresponsible manager challenged me to bring this to consumer tribunal. Can you see how arrogant a Dell manager is?

I'm going to bring this case to the Tribunal for Consumer Claims Malaysia to seek for their help. I found a similar case on their website too!

The Tribunal for Consumer Claims is an independent body established under Section 85, Part XII of the Consumer Protection Act 1999. The Tribunal operates under the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism. The primary objective of establishing the Tribunal is to provide an alternative forum for consumers to file claims in a simple, inexpensive and speedy manner.

After reading this, if you think you still want to buy a Dell, read more cases below:

You might be the next victim!

Ahh... Stupid Me! :-(
